"Shah Bano Begum" case is becoming a movie
The film helmed by Suparn S Varma
In post-independence India, the "Mohd. Ahmed Khan Case," often referred to as the "Shah Bano Begum Case," is regarded as a seminal case. Shah Bano, then 62 years old, brought the action in 1978. She claimed that Shah Bano's husband, Ahmed Khan, had divorced her and filed a lawsuit under Section 123 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, claiming maintenance for herself and her five children. The case went to Shah Bano. However, there was a stir since some people thought the decision went against Islamic law. Even more than 40 years after the ruling, the argument concerning various religions in India having distinct civil laws still goes on.
After web shows like 'Rana Naidu' as Director, 'The Trial' as the Executive Producer, and 'Sultan of Delhi' as Director, 'Shah Bano Begum' is directed by Suparn S Verma.
