Kochi: Director Abhilash Kodavelil said Kodiyeri Balakrishnan helped him bring the epic life of KR Gouri Amma to the audience through the silver screen. I was afraid to approach Gouri Amma who was generally angry. But it was my dream to portray that exemplary life. I approached many people for that but no one really cooperated.

Kodiyeri is approached very casually. I used to meet Kodiyeri, who was the secretary of the CPI (M) at that time, at the AKG center in Thiruvananthapuram. I had no prior knowledge or other connections with Kodiyeri. But he wished me all the best for my desire to make a short film on Gouri Amma's life. Later it was Kodiyeri who gave all the help to shoot and release it very beautifully. For that very reason, I am forever indebted to Kodiyeri.

Later, when I made a documentary about Nangeli's life, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was ready to release it. Even though I am a newcomer in the field, the care, and love of that comrade, who was willing to help someone like me, is quite an example. We need such supportive comrades in the new age as well, Abhilash Kodavelil says.
