Powerstar is a Malayalam movie that features Babu Antony as the lead with Riyaz Khan, Shammi Thilakan, Abu Salim, Shalu Rahim, Aamir Niaz, Hareesh Kanaran, Hollywood star Louis Mandylor, and former five-time World Kickboxing Champion and former four-time Sport Karate Champion Robert Parham will also be in the lead roles. Shreyas K Manju, a young Kannada actor, also plays the lead role. Directed by Omar Lulu after the comedy films Happy Wedding (2016), Chunkzz (2017), Oru Adaar Love (2019), and Dhamaka (2020). The story and screenplay of the film are written by Dennis Joseph. The movie Powerstar is produced by CH Muhammed under the banner of Royal Cinemas in association with Joy Mukerji Productions of Sujoy Mukherjee. Sinu Sidharth handles the camera, and John Kutty is the editor of the film, including the super hit Mohanlal movie 'Pulimurugan'.

The film focuses on the action only and tells the story in the context of the drug mafia. The film stars Babu Antony in the lead role after a gap of 10 years. The major locations are Mangalore, Kasaragod, and Kochi. Omar Lulu said that Powerstar will be a short story-telling film that focuses on the action only, without the heroine, romance, and comedy scenes.

Babu Antony will be seen in a masculine look with long hair and a cross earring. Earlier, the director had said that the look of the film is reminiscent of the old look of Babu Antony, who was once an integral part of Malayalam cinema. Omar Lulu said that the film will be released in theaters when the shooting starts between the covid crisis has been over for so long and that Power Star will be an action movie that audiences will enjoy in the theater.

The shooting of the movie Power Star started in Kannur on 1^st April 2022. The switch-on ceremony of the film was held at Payyambalam beach in Kannur in the presence of thousands of spectators on 30^th March 2022. Director Omar Lulu then introduced the cast and crew of the movie. Then, in the excitement of DJ Savio's DJ party, Power Star cast, and crew, activists and spectators danced on Payyambalam beach. Omar Lulu celebrated the switch-on ceremony as if his cinema wanted to be different.

The first look poster of the Power Star movie was unveiled on 1^st June 2022. The poster suggests that the cinema Powerstar will be one of the biggest action movies seen in Mollywood.

Babu Antony, who was the icon of action movies in the Malayalam cinema world in the 90s, has been brought back in an action avatar by Omar Lulu with the screenplay of Dennis Joseph. The promotional trailer is made in a complete action mode which is not seen in Malayalam released on 8^th July 2022. Apart from Babu Antony, Abu Salim and Ameer Niaz also appear in the 4K promotional trailer. The trailer is rich with bike and car scenes and mass dialogues, one thing is for sure that Omar Lulu is going to be a great action treat for Power Star action movie lovers.

Power Star will also be Omar Lulu's first film as the music director.
