Virunnu is a big-budget Malayalam action thriller movie directed by Kannan Thamarakkulam following Varaal. Features action King Arjun Sarja and Nikki Galrani in the key roles. The movie Virunnu is produced by Girish Neyyar and Badusha NM under the banner of Neyyar Films. The film also stars Mukesh, Gireesh Neyyar, Aju Varghese, Baiju Santhosh, Hareesh Peradi, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Sona Nair, Manraj, Sudhir, Kochu Preman, Poojappura Radhakrishnan, VK Baiju, Ajai Vasudev, Kollam Shah, Jibin Saab, Paul Thadikaran, Eldo, Adv Sasthamangalam Ajith Kumar, Rajkumar, Sanal Kumar, Anil Pathanamthitta, Arundhati, Shailaja, Nancy, Jeeja Surendran, and others are also in the cast. Dinesh Pallath wrote the screenplay for the investigative suspense thriller movie.

Pradeep Nair and Ravichandran handled the cinematography and VT Sreejith is the editor. The executive producers of the film Virunnu are Hima Gireesh and Anil Kumar K. AUV Rajapandiayan is the co-director and the chief associate directors are Suresh Elampal and KJ Vinayan, the associate director is Sajith Balakrishnan. The project designer of Virunnu is NM Badusha.

The big-budget action film Virunnu, featuring action superstar Arjun Sarja, released its first look teaser on 28 September 2023. The preview was made available via the Facebook profiles of Tamil actors Karthi and Prithviraj. The significant development was Reach Music's acquisition of the film's music rights. For the first time, this London-based music label has acquired Malayalam music rights. After Varal, Kannan Thamarakulam is helming this high-profile Malayalam and Tamil movie.

Director Kannan's previous movies are 'Pattabhiraman', 'Maradu 357' and 'Udumbu'.

The shooting of the film started in Peermade, Idukki district. The children from Chenkalchoola Colony, Thiruvananthapuram acted in the revived dance scene and stunts of the 2009 Suriya starring movie 'Ayan' created by them. On the birthday of actor Surya, these kids from Rajaji Nagar re-made the dance scene and posted it on social media. The video went viral, and the camera work and editing of the video were highly praised. The filming and editing were done by the children themselves using a mobile phone. The group of eleven will be seen on the silver screen as members of the gang led by Ajay Vasudev who kidnaps heroine Nikki Gilrani in the movie which is being shot in Kuttikkanam, a hill station in Idukki district.

Abi, who has edited dance and stunts, wants to be an editor in cinema. To begin with, editor VT Sreejith has made Abi his assistant.

The title poster was unveiled on 7^th August 2021 by various celebrities including Mammootty through their Facebook page. The movie "Virunnu" stars Nikki Galrani and action king Arjun Sarja's first-look poster was made public on 14th July 2023. Using Prithviraj Sukumaran and Unni Mukundan's Facebook pages, the poster was made public. The poster has been released featuring Arjun Sarja, Mukesh, Aju Varghese, Gireesh Neyyar, Nikki Galrani, Baiju Santhosh, and Hareesh Peradi.

The music for the film "Virunnu" is composed by Ratheesh Vega and Sanand George Grace with the lyrics by Rafeeq Ahmed and BK Harinarayanan.

Virunnu movie hit the theaters on August 29, 2024. The movie was planned to be released in November 2023 and postponed. The film Virunnu will be released in Malayalam and Tamil languages.

Synopsis

John Kalathil, a businessman, mysteriously passes away. Elizabeth, John's wife, met with an accident and passed away while the cause of his death was being investigated. She instructs our hero Hemanth to go meet a man called Balan before she passes away. In Arjun Sarja's Virunnu witness the events that transpire when Hemanth meets Balan and discovers who killed John and Elizabeth.
