Aquarium Malayalam drama movie is directed by National award-winning director T Deepesh. Features Honey Rose, Sunny Wayne, and Shari, along with art director Sabu Cyril, director VK Prakash, and Kannada actor Rajshri Ponnappa in the lead roles. Balram wrote the screenplay from the story of director Deepesh.

"Aquarium" is a completely feminist film. The movie Aquarium deals with how religions exploit women's mental and physical problems. The film discusses the value of nuns in the church.

Aquarium movie was released on April 9^th of 2022 as a direct OTT release through Saina Play. The movie was planned for release on 14th May 2021 and was postponed due to the order from the court. The film is initially not permitted to be screened in India. The 'Aquarium' is being set up after being denied permission to exhibit and being banned twice by the censor board.

Earlier, when it was ready for release, some nuns approached the Delhi and Kerala High Courts seeking a ban on the film, saying it offended religious sentiments. The courts dismissed the case and granted permission to exhibit. The crew had approached the Kerala unit and the Central unit Censor Board but was denied permission to exhibit. Often narrow-minded people try to block this movie, and as part of that, several legal battles had to be fought. Permission for the film's release was denied several times. The film's crew approached the tribunal for permission, the only release was subsequently allowed. The name of the movie was changed at the behest of the Censor Board Tribunal. The Censor Board has blocked the release of Aquarium, the only Indian film in the competition at the Kolkata International Film Festival, saying it would hurt religious sentiments.

Synopsis

A Convent in a scenic mountain range. The convent's tough Mother Superior. Sister Elsitta and Sister Jaseentha, two inmates, see Jesus Christ from two ideological perspectives. The abrasion of fantasy and reality intensifies the conflict between them. The clergy is the only males in their lives.
